         The Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of the IQAC

    All accredited institutions shall submit the AQAR to the NAAC by the end of every academic year with emphasis on the following key results areas:

    Organizing and conducting educational activities

    Modification in syllabus are made for many courses and got ratified in the academic committee and implemented in the present year.

    After the Autonomous status achieved Exam cell is created and started functioning.  The Examination cell is being equipped with staff and computer facilities.  Autonomous course examination is fully being taken up by the cell.  It has prepared list of experienced faculties who can serve as question paper setters and Evaluators.  Internal Exam scheduled are prepared in advance and intimated to the student well in advance.

    Awards committee constituted. Disciplinary committee constituted to go into irregularities and maintain discipline among student. Question bank is being developed and teachers were asked to prepare question banks. Orientation to the students organized regularly on how to write examination etc.

    7.Initiative towards faculty development programme:
    Faculties are being deputed to various seminar and conferences.  They are given responsibilities to undertake seminar and conferences, thereby they contribute, learn and gain academic input.

    a)UGC sponsored – National seminar on Recent Trends in Social Work Research.
    b)UGC sponsored – National seminar on Human Rights Vis a Vis duties of Professional Social Workers
    c)NISD sponsored Workshop on Counseling Skills.
    d)NISD sponsored Workshop on Regional level for Social Work Professionals.
    e)Two day Workshop on Performance Management System was organized 3rd and 4th October 2009
    f)One day interactive seminar was organized on Application of labour law in current scenario, on 08/10/2009.
    g)An inter college seminar on Industrial Relations in the current Scenario Jointly with National Institute of Personal Management, Madurai chapter on 21/12/2009.
    h)One day Workshop on use of software in Wage and Salary Admin was organized on 26/12/2010.
    i)Two day National Seminar on Redefining and HR Strategy: Emerging   perspectives on 5th and 6th March 2010.
    j)Kaizen forum of Madurai Institute of Social Sciences organized two day workshop on Assessment and Development on 6th and 7th February 2010.
    k)One day workshop on preparation for seminar and job placement was organized on 7th   March 2010.
    9.Research projects:
    Research cell is already created and preparing research project and implementing research activities.  The research cell is taking up the responsibilities of monitoring and guiding research scholars admitted.  This year it has taken up a National Seminar on Recent Trends in Social Work Research Methods.  Prof. Dr. M. Kannan took up the responsibility of conducting the National Seminar.  The seminar was organized many scholars and faculties in different parts of our country participated in the seminar.

    A quick appraisal on “persons living in streets” was conducted on the request of the Madurai Corporation in collaboration with Annai Therasa Development Agency in Madurai.  A report was submitted to facilitate the Madurai Corporation to take up “Night Shelters” for persons living in Madurai Streets
    12.Research grants received from various agencies:
    a)UGC sponsored – Anti Ragging Programme in various colleges in M.K. University area.
    b)UGC sponsored – Minor Research Project – Urban Agriculture and Livelihood option in Madurai.

    Madurai Kamaraj University awarded to our college Principal Dr. N. Narayana Raja, the Innovative Teacher Award for formulating AAA (Actual, Ambition and Achievements) schedule as a part of Student Guidance Programme.

    1. Community services:  

     

    A quick appraisal conducted mentioned in the 11th item is the community service rendered to the society for the welfare of the street living persons and families.  In response to this the Madurai Corporation has started identifying places to start temporary “Night shelters” to the street living persons.
    Education for left programme is being run in Kallendri village, 10km away from the college.

    In MSW course student assessment of teachers is introduced.  Based on this, regular feed back meeting is held.

    Approximately Rs. 4000 to 7000 per semester.

    Computerization of Examination and result publications are being practiced from this academic year.

     

    1. Increase in the infrastructural facilities:

     

    As mentioned in the previous report a new building is being built and it will be ready in the next academic year.

    1. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students:

    Computer and internet facilities are already available for both the students and teachers.  The teachers who are not familiar with computer use are being trained individually by the computer course faculties.  The teachers have free access to the computer and net facilities and they can use as they need.

    1. Students are regularly being helped to get scholarships and
    2. Educational loan facilities available from banks and from Governments.

     

    1. Support from the Alumni Association and its activities:

     

                 Alumni Association of Madurai Institute of Social Sciences and other branches at Chennai and Bangalore are actively associated with the college.  The Alumni are helping the students in

    1. getting placements
    2. Organizing campus interview
    3. As Guest Lectures
    4. Acting as mentor
    5. Assisting the students in getting help for Summer and Block Placement training etc.

                  The annual general body of Alumni meets once in a year on October 2nd.

     

    1. Support from the Parent-Teacher  Association and its activities:

    Every year we conduct Parent Teachers Association meeting and elect office bearers once in a year.  We discuss about the course discipline to be observed by the students
    and the areas of cooperation that the parents can render.  At the end of the each
    semester we call the parents whose children did not perform well in the      examination and discuss with both parents and their wards and evolve plan to improve students performance.

     

    1. Health services:

                 We conduct regular health check up.  During illness we have them to the hospital near by.  For girl students who are residing in hostel we arrange for regular doctor visit and provide treatment to the needy.   We also organize blood donation camp every year.

    1. Performance in sports activities:

     

                  We provide both indoor and out door sports facilities. We have working understanding (MOU) with the District Sports committee located in the next door, for play facilities. Students are also taken for sports competition held in various colleges.  We conduct annual sports meet every year.

    1. Student achievements and awards:
    1. Ms. Usha Nanthini Bsc III year received III prize in state level essay competition    

          conducted by Sri Ramakrishna Mission.

    1. Mr. K. Chellapandi II year MSW received II prize in the competition organized 

          by TamilNadu Energy Development Corporation.

    1. Ms. Bhuvaneswari participated in the poster competition on “No Smoking”  

          organized by Top Kids and won II prize.

     

    1. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling Cell:

               We have students Counseling and Guidance Cell in the college.  We provide counseling to the student with problem and help them to correct themselves.  The student meets teachers and placement cell for job placement.   We help them to get jobs and guide them whom to approach etc.  We also conduct regularly the training on “How to face interview”.  This year we have also started separate cell to train students to prepare for IAS, State and Central Staff Service Commissions and also planned to train them for NET and SLET Examinations.
    AAA format helps student on self performance and progress.

     

    1. Placement services provided to students:

     

         We had established placement cell to help student place in various jobs. The placement cell has undertaken following programmes.

    1. Prepare placement brochure
    2. Organizes on campus and off campus interview
    3. Conducts training programme
    4. Conducts career guidance programme
    5. Coaching programme to attend management training in public sector industries.
    6. During this academic year the placement cell has prepared placement broacher and sent to various institutions for the job placement of current batch of students. Enquiries and interview letter from various organizations started coming to the cell as well as to the students.
