CHILDLINE-1098 is a national 24-hour emergency phone (1098) and outreach service for children in need of care and protection. Any child or adult can call 1098 to report about a child in distress. CHILDLINE-1098 intervenes in emergency and links children in need of care and protection for long- term services and rehabilitation. CHILDLINE-1098 works with district administration. It is currently operational in 366 cities and 34 States/UTs through its network of over 700 partner organisation across the country. CHILDLINE has responded to over 36 million calls up to March 2015. It is a project of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India. Madurai Institute of Social Sciences is a pioneer to start Madurai CHILDLINE-1098 in the year 2002 .And serves as a Nodal Organisation for the children in need of care and protection in collaboration with Sakthi Vidiyal.
